PENDLETON – A rock-throwing suspect is now in custody. Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram said surveillance videos indicated the person who threw rocks through windows at Pendleton City Hall and the U.S. Post Office last month was the same person.

“Pendleton resident Jackson Amsberry was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail on criminal mischief 1 charges, felony charges, for the rock throwing incidents,” he said. “Several thousand dollars of damage was done.”

When he first spoke about the incidents in early December, the chief said investigators believed they had a suspect and if it was who they thought it was, he would be disappointed. Amsberry is a familiar face to those who drive on Southwest 20th Street at Southgate where he often stands.

“We’ve worked with Jackson Amsberry a lot,” Byram said. “We are intimately familiar with him, and I am sensitive to his plight; but we’re not going to tolerate criminal activity out of him.”

The chief said that the department will be watching the court process involving Amsberry to see what kind of accountability results.
