SALEM – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has opened registration for youth pheasant hunts that begin in September before the regular season begins. There are multiple dates and times from which to choose.

Registration forms and more details are posted on the ODFW licensing page. Registration can only be completed online, but some of the hunts across the state do not require advance registration.

In this area, no advance registration is needed for the hunts at the Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area in La Grande on Sept. 17 and 18. Advance registration is required for either morning or evening hunts at the Irrigon Wildlife Area Sept. 24 and 25. All of the hunts throughout the area are listed on the page.

Young people who register to participate must have passed hunter safety training. They also need a valid hunting license and those age 12-17 also need an upland game bird validation. The hunts themselves are free.
