PENDLETON – The 2019 flood of McKay Creek destroyed a railcar bridge at the city’s wastewater treatment plan. It’s finally getting fixed.

“Silver Creek Construction is going to be putting a new bigger, wider railcar bridge that’s going to be higher,” Pendleton Public Works Superintendent Jeff Brown said.

While the railcar bridge accesses private property, Brown said it performs an important function for the city as well.

“The city needs to get across that bridge to get down to where our outfall from the wastewater plant enters the Umatilla River,” he said. “Hopefully, that will be done this summer and those folks will have access to their home again, which they haven’t had since 2019 and we will be able to get down to our outfall.”
