PENDLETON – Another day, another new scam of which to be aware.

Pendleton police say that they’ve received reports of scammers calling residents pretending to be either Chief Chuck Byram or a known officer, then make up a phony case number and threaten to arrest people if they don’t pay their “fine” over the phone.

Police say while most people know it’s a scam, sometimes the scammers are very convincing and persistent. The department says officers will never demand immediate payment over the phone.

If you get one of these calls, hang up and call Pendleton police at 541-276-4411 or non-emergency dispatch at 541-966-3650 ext 1.
