WALLA WALLA – Blocks of Poplar Street will be temporarily closed at night while crews conduct subsurface exploration using ground-penetrating radar in preparation for the Poplar Street project between Fifth and 14th avenues. The work is scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

The work will take place on Poplar Street from Avery Street to Fifth Avenue starting at the west end of the corridor. No parking will be allowed on Poplar Street during this time.

Closures will happen one block at a time with detours in place. Emergency vehicles will have access. City staff reports that the ground-penetrating radar is quiet. The only noise associated with the project will be an idling truck and possibly a generator for lighting.

East Chestnut Street from South Second Avenue to Howard Street will remain closed until Friday to complete the Chestnut Street project. The intersection of Second Avenue and Chestnut Street will remain open to traffic. Final striping and signal work on the Chestnut Street project remains to be completed.
