WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department reports an overheated HVAC system forced the evacuation of customers and employees at the Safeway grocery store, 1600 Plaza Way, shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.

WWFD Deputy Fire Chief Eric Wood said there was no damage to the ceiling. After the store was evacuated, normal business was able to resume once an HVAC technician arrived on scene to troubleshoot.

Assisting the Walla Walla Fire Department was Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 and the College Place Fire Department.
