EASTERN OREGON — As the sun begins to come out more, it is a great time to clean up outside the house and prepare for fire season.

If your only option for getting rid of yard debris is to burn it, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) asks you to remain vigilant and burn responsibly.

Escaped debris burns are the number one cause of human-caused fires in Oregon, but they can be avoided.

Prevent wildfires by checking conditions and regulations first, staying with the burn till it’s out cold, keep your pile small and only burn yard debris.

Make sure to double check regulations in your town as well, as some cities such as La Grande require permits.
