One arrested after disturbance near Irrigon schools

IRRIGON – The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office reports a disturbance near schools in Irrigon put the schools in “secure” status. A man was arrested. Here is the complete news release from MCSO:

On September 29th at approximately 2:12pm Morrow County Communication Center received a 911 call from a female caller reporting a disturbance on Utah Street in Irrigon.  The caller declined to answer any further questions, and hung up.  Two Morrow County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies were on scene within 2 minutes and made contact with a male subject, who fought with the deputies and escaped on foot. The deputies suffered minor cuts on their hands and arms.

The area schools were advised to follow their protocol to go into “Secure” status.  Four more MCSO deputies, a Umatilla Police Officer, Oregon State Police, Morrow County Parole & Probation and the MCSO K-9 Unit, which was tracking within 20 minutes of the escape, all converged on the area. Irrigon Ambulance was also put on stand-by at the ambulance hall. 

Following tips from witnesses, several residences and outbuildings were searched. Two more deputies arrived in the area and joined in the search.  The suspect was located in a residence on Utah Street in Irrigon and taken into custody.

Kevin Alvarez Montelongo, 21 of Irrigon, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct II, Criminal Trespass II, Resisting Arrest, Escape II, Escape III, Assaulting a Police Officer (X2) and Burglary I.  He was lodged in the Umatilla County Jail with a bail of $148,500.
