ONTARIO – (Press Release from Ontario Fire Chief Clint Benson)
On May 23, 2026, at approximately 3:08 PM, Ontario Fire & Rescue (OFR) was dispatched for a camp trailer fire at 1248 NW 20th Avenue within the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District. OFR Engine 103 (crew of three) and Command 105 initially responded. While in route, Engine 103’s officer requested a general page calling all available off-duty and part-time OFR staff to assist. Upon arrival, OFR found a camp trailer fully engulfed with fire extension into a 2400 square foot shop and several automobiles on the property. 105 requested mutual aid from several Snake River Valley Fire Chiefs mutual aid partners. Crews worked in a defensive strategy to control the fire. Once the fire was controlled, crews conducted a search of the camper, shop, and vehicles. There were no injuries to the public or firefighters on this incident. Investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing and will be led by the Oregon State Fire Marshall’s Office.
Agencies taking part in the operation were Vale Fire, Nyssa Fire, Payette Fire, Fruitland Fire, Weiser Fire (covered our station during the incident), Treasure Valley Paramedics (TVP), Oregon Dept of Transportation (ODOT), Malheur County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario Police Department, and the Ontario Volunteer Firefighters Association.
A total of six fire engines, one command vehicle, one rehab/support vehicle, and a host of dedicated firefighters worked to control the fire.
