Multiple confirmed wolf depredations in Union and Wallowa Counties in the first 2 ½ weeks September.

UNION/WALLOWA COUNTIES – Multiple confirmed wolf depredations have been reported so far this month. According to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, two confirmed depredations and one probable depredation have occurred in Wallowa County in the Bartlett Bench area. Union County has also seen two depredations, one in the Gordon Creek area, the other in the Starkey area.

Additionally, ODFW has issued the following update on a lethal removal authorization for the Bear Creek Pack in Wallowa County.

“ODFW issued a limited duration permit to a livestock producer to remove one wolf on the large private land pasture where he experienced recent depredation. The producer has been using regular human presence patrolling day and night, camping on the pasture, and has changed the pasture rotation. The permit expires October 15, 2024, or earlier if the producer kills a wolf. Wildlife Services is also working to reduce depredation by removing up to two wolves.”
