Multi-agency response leads to successful spike strip deployment and arrest

On Wednesday, October 5th, 2022, Harney County Dispatch received information from Malheur County regarding an individual who was stopped for erratic driving then fled the traffic stop and was heading toward Harney County.

The driver was located and a traffic stop was initiated for failing to maintain lane. The driver failed to stop and was followed from Buchanan area to approximately mile post 137 where Bureau of Indian Affairs and Harney County Sheriff’s Office successfully deployed spike strips at the same time, hitting all four of the driver’s tires. The driver stopped a short time later and surrendered to law enforcement. The driver, Lyman North, was arrested for reckless driving and attempting to elude. It was also discovered that he had a misdemeanor warrant from another county.

Agencies who responded include Oregon State Police, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Harney County Sheriff’s Office, Burns Police Department and Hines Police Department.
