NYSSA – (Information released by the Nyssa Police Department on July 27) On July 13th at about 12:23 pm, your Nyssa Officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 100 block of Fischer Drive. A 21 year old male who was under the influence of various drugs had assaulted his mother at their home and barricaded himself in his bedroom. The suspect had access to firearms in his room. While preparing to enter the room and apprehend the suspect as they had probable cause to arrest him for the assault, your Nyssa Officers did an amazing job at attempting communication and de-escalating the situation. Instead of choosing to fight or shoot it out with police, he fled through the bedroom window. However, he was met by the ordinance officer (also Nyssa Reserve Officer) where he surrendered himself while stating, ‘it is just not worth it.’ A subsequent search of the suspect’s bedroom revealed two handguns and various impairing substances to include, mushrooms (aka: psilocybin), pills and marijuana.

Your Nyssa Officers’ exemplary work brought a safe and sound conclusion to what could have been a deadly situation. It is a blessing to serve our little community with such a dedicated and professional group of people.
