Looking ahead: April Is National Child Abuse Awareness Month

EASTERN OREGON – (Release from Building Healthy Families) Wallowa and Baker Counties will be recognizing National Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. Businesses and organizations will be displaying pinwheel gardens, pinwheel vases along with posters and coloring pages. The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention. The pinwheel reflects the bright future all children deserve. Building Healthy Families has partnered with Helping Hearts CAC, Protect Our Children, and CASA to coordinate the annual awareness/prevention campaign.

In recognition of Child Abuse Awareness, local schools will have Dress up Week during April 15th-18th. The theme on Monday will be “Shine a Light” on Child Abuse by wearing bright & neon colors; Tuesday “Start Your Morning” preventing child abuse by wearing pajamas; wear your favorite team’s clothing on Wednesday the 17th to “Team Up” Against Child Abuse; and Thursday the 18th, Go Blue Day. There will also be coloring pages and bracelets distributed to kids in the schools.

In Wallowa County, there will be a Child Abuse Warrior Shout Out during the month of April. All year long amazing community members fight to protect Wallowa County’s youth from abuse, and work hard to keep Wallowa County’s youth safe.  People can nominate persons they know that excels in this area. Nominees will receive recognition through a social media post.  For more information reach out to Ashley at helpingheartsac@outllook.com.
