La Grande School District Announces Hiring of New La Grande High School Principal

LA GRANDE – (Release from the La Grande School District) La Grande School District is excited to announce, effective July 1, 2023, Chelsea Hurliman will become the new principal at La Grande High School, filling a vacancy created by Principal Brett Baxter who is taking a new position as Assistant Superintendent of Wallowa ESD.  

Hurliman is in her second year as assistant principal at La Grande Middle School. Prior to joining the La Grande School District, Hurliman was with the Baker School District for 10 years, serving as a middle school Science/Language Arts teacher, and high school assistant principal. Overall, Mrs. Hurliman has 9 years of experience as a building level administrator. 

Superintendent George Mendoza commented, “Every student deserves to have a principal that will set high standards and expectations, focus on shared leadership and collaboration, communicate and organize effectively, as well as ensure we sustain a motivating environment where staff members are supported to meet the needs of our students. Our goal is to exceed learning growth targets, state achievement standards and graduation rates. I am pleased that we have found a leader that will help us accomplish these goals.”
