La Grande Reaches Out to the Oregon Governor’s Office Regarding Measure 110

LA GRANDE – Measure 110 caused significant change in the way the Oregon legal and healthcare systems view and respond to drug related incidents, especially overdoses. For the leadership of some communities, these changes have caused a degree of frustration. The city of La Grande decided to address the Oregon legislature directly with these frustrations. 

Inspired by a recent effort from Ontario Oregon and motivated by the increasing number of reported overdoses in the community, the La Grande City Council voted to draft a letter directly to the Oregon Governor’s Office. This letter asks the new Governor Elect to address the perceived issues and complications caused by Measure 110 and the city’s concerns over insufficient resources to deal with them. As outgoing Mayor of La Grande Steven Clements stated when asked about the letter:

“What prompted it? A problem with drug overdoses in the community, and no authority to do anything about it.”

The final Draft of the Letter was approved on December 2. Currently, the Council are waiting for final signatures to send the letter out. The final draft is as follows:
