GILLIAM COUNTY –

Update from the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office

On 02/16/2024 at approximately 03:30 am, Frontier Regional 911 took multiple reports of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 84 at milepost 137 affecting eastbound and westbound lanes. Dispatch reported 2 semis rolled and 1 was blocking the entire westbound lanes.

2 members with Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, North Gilliam Rural Fire Protection District, North Gilliam Medic Ambulance, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation responded.

Once on scene we learned a total of 5 commercial motor vehicles (semi’s) were involved, and 2 passenger cars. Luckily no one was seriously injured. The interstate was closed for about 4 hours in length as resources worked to repair the damaged concrete barriers and recover all of the damaged vehicles. D & R Towing, and Purdy’s Towing & Transport both responded and quickly reopened the lanes of travel.

We are very fortunate everyone walked away from the crash, and would like to thank everyone’s patience while crews worked around the clock. This incident required a ton of agencies and we thankful to have amazing relationships with our various partners.
