PENDLETON – The popular tours of downtown Pendleton’s historic buildings are on tap again this month. Urban Renewal History Preserved Manager Stephanie Huffman says the tours go into many spaces that have not changed over time.

“I love the awe in people’s eyes because you see these huge doors with the ornate door handles,” she said. “They don’t make them like that anymore.”

The tours will be held on May 10 and 11. Between 1-4 p.m., people can gather at Heritage Station Museum where they will be given passports that will be stamped at the completion of each building visit.

The tour includes the Bond Building, the Bowman Hotel, the Oak Hotel, the Odd Fellows Temple, the Rainbow Café, and the Rivoli Theater. Huffman says the final stop will be the Christian Science building at the corner of South Main Street and Southwest Byers Avenue.

Volunteers are also needed to be stationed at the various stops on the tour for short shifts. In addition, student tours can be booked for seventh through 12th grade students. For more information about either of those, contact stephanie.huffman@ci.pendleton.or.us or by calling 971-978-7603.

Editor’s note: The LaDow Blocks have been removed from these tours because exterior brickwork is being done, posing a potential hazard to visitors.
