WALLA WALLA COUNTY – Three separate fires in three days have kept firefighters across Walla Walla County busy.

One person was transported to the hospital following a house fire Monday morning near the corner of Sage Road and Ray Boulevard in Burbank. When firefighters arrived around 7 a.m., they found a man lying on the lawn unresponsive, but breathing. He was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

Undersheriff Joe Klundt reports that the fire was deliberately set by the homeowner after which that person attempted to commit suicide. The medical status of the homeowner has not been released. Klundt said no other people were involved in the fire.

On Sunday night, firefighters responded to a possible couch on fire inside a garage on the 100 block of West Morton Street in Walla Walla. The fire was contained to the garage and did not cause any reportable damage. The cause of the fire is accidental and presumed to be caused by cigarettes not being properly extinguished. No injuries were reported.

On Saturday night, firefighters were dispatched to fire at a two-story house on the 100 block of East Chestnut Street. The occupants got out safely and no injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $35,000 and the fire is believed to have started within the home’s electrical wiring.
