Firefighters respond to two separate scrap yard fires in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department responded just before 5 a.m. Tuesday to the 1000 block of North 13th Avenue to a fire in a scrap yard. Crews immediately went to work gaining access to the fenced property and extinguishing the blaze.

About an hour later, a second fire was reported inside another scrap yard on the 1100 block of North 12th Avenue.

Firefighters had the blazes on both properties under control shortly after 7 a.m. Damages at both properties are estimated at $12,500.

The cause of the fires is undetermined, but are termed suspicious in nature. No injuries were reported. WWFD Deputy Fire Chief Eric Wood said this is the fifth fire in the area since Aug. 1.

Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 and the College Place Fire Department also assisted.
