Evacuation orders lifted following warehouse fire

FINLEY – A level three, go now evacuation order has been lifted after a warehouse at Lineage Logistics, 224905 E. Bowles Rd., caught fire Sunday in Finley. As of 6 p.m. Sunday, a shelter in place recommendation remains in effect for the area for those with respiratory conditions that could be compromised by the heavy smoke.

The fire is expected to continue smoldering overnight, according to Benton County Fire District No. 1 Public Information Officer Jenna Kochenauer. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters responded to a commercial fire alarm at 5:15 a.m. where they found smoke coming from a large freezer. About 10 employees safely evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.

At 11:10 a.m., firefighters reported there was still an active fire in the freezer. Crews from the Pasco Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District No. 5 arrived to help.

Shortly after 2 p.m. a level three, go now evacuation order was given for residents and businesses in the area of the warehouse, Bowles Road, Piert Road, Finley Road to the Columbia River. The American Red Cross had also set up an evacuation center in Kennewick.

As of 6 p.m., now that the evacuation order has been lifted, the American Red Cross said its evacuation center is closed.
