EOU Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Rank in Top 30

LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the Week 1 edition of the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Indexes for the 2023 outdoor season. Eastern Oregon University made an appearance on both the women’s and men’s side sitting in the top 30 nationally. The women led the way ranked No. 11 nationally and No. 6 in the West Region while the men ranked No. 29 overall and No. 6 in the region.
 
Eastern Oregon’s Outdoor Track and Field team has gotten off to a strong start this spring. In just two weekends the Mountaineers already have posted five “A” and “B” Standard marks, two for the women and three for the men.
 
On the women’s side it was the dynamic duo of Kenna Woodward and Maggie Ledbetter posting qualifying marks in the throws. Woodward posted a “B” Standard in the discus to start the spring season with a throw of 50.20 meters. Ledbetter earned yet another CCC Field Athlete of the Week honor for last week’s performance posting an “A” Standard and school record in the shot put with a throw of 14.11 meters.
 
As for the men, the Mounties have had two “B” Standard marks and one “A” Standard mark. Moses McAninch is the only member of the men’s team to fully clinch his spot in the national championships doing so in the first outdoor meet of the year with a javelin throw of 58.33 meters. Earning “B” Standard marks were Tyler Jones in the high jump and Hunter Nichols in the 5,000 meter run.
 
The next event scheduled for the Mountaineers starts tomorrow as Eastern heads to Portland to compete in the Pacific University Multi meet.
