Deceased hunter found in Logan Valley area

GRANT COUNTY – UPDATE: Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley has issued a press release on the death of a hunter in the Logan Valley area. Find the release below:

On October 23rd near 4:45 pm, Grant County Deputies and Emergency Management responded to a report of a body that had been located in the Logan Valley area. 

While responding to the area, further information was given that the person deceased was a hunter, Rodney Mayfield, 72, of Bend Oregon. 

Initial investigation has determined that Mayfield more than likely suffered a significant medical event. He had not returned to camp on time, and was located by his son with whom he was hunting. 

The Grant County Medical Death Investigator responded along with Driskill’s Memorial staff. 

Family has been notified.

PREVIOUS: Little information has been released regarding a death in the Logan Valley area. Grant County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the report of an unattended death at Lake Creek Youth Camp on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 4:37 p.m.

According to information from Sheriff McKinley, a hunter from out of the area had died of natural causes in the western edge of the Logan Valley area, south of the 1640 road. He was found by a family member and other hunters.
