PENDLETON – Improving communication with the public is the newest goal to be set by the Pendleton City Council and President McKennon McDonald is one of the members of a subcommittee exploring ways to improve communication other than just inviting people to attend council meetings.

“If anything, COVID has taught us that we need to provide more opportunities for people to be part of the conversation without actually being in the same room as you,” she said.

McDonald said the committee has discussed hiring or contracting with someone with expertise in communication and social media, but has not made a decision to recommend that step.

“It continues to be a major focus, and I’m really excited that it has gained the traction that it has, because I think we’re moving continually in that positive direction,” she said. “We want to be responsive to the citizens because we know we’re spending taxpayer money so we’re trying to figure out how we can do it conservatively within the budget.”
