COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place City Council meets tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and will consider a motion to allow the fire department to purchase a new $72,000 self-contained breathing apparatus compressor.

College Place Fire Chief Dave Winter said the current compressor is 15 years old and has become unrepairable. He described this as a vital piece of equipment as it is used to fill the oxygen tanks firefighters wear when entering a burning structure.

Currently, Winter said the Walla Walla Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District No. Four have shown their generosity in filling CPFD’s oxygen tanks.

“The unit we are purchasing is the same unit the city of Walla Walla researched and purchased this year,” Winter said. “They recommended this unit.”
