Citizens help apprehend fleeing suspect which leads to large narcotics recovery

COLLEGE PLACE – The College Place Police Department said citizens assisted in the apprehension of a fleeing man being investigated for theft at Walmart last Tuesday that lead to a large narcotics recovery.

At 10:45 p.m., officers arrived at Walmart and made contact with Jaime Guerrero, 42, of Hermiston and Katrina Chamberlain, 37, of Pendleton. Both subjects were initially uncompliant and began walking in opposite directions when officers attempted contact. Chamberlain was quickly detailed but Guerrero continued to disregard commands from an officers as he started running through the parking lot. As officers took chase, a group of helpful citizens assisted the officers in stopping and detaining Guerrero as he made multiple attempts to flee.

Officers were able to identify both subjects, although both subjects refused to identify themselves and provided false names.

Officers were able to establish probable cause for the arrest of both Guerrero and Chamberlain. As they
were being searched incident to arrest, a backpack on their person appeared to contain a large quantity
of narcotics.

A search warrant was applied for and granted by a local judge. Upon searching the backpack, officers
recovered 251.3 grams of suspected pink fentanyl pills, 107 grams of suspected fentanyl powder, along
with smaller amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine.

Both Guerrero and Chamberlain were booked into the Walla Walla County Jail on charges of possession
with intent to distribute fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, obstruction of a law enforcement
officer and third-degree theft.

On June 12, both subjects were released on their own recognizance after their first appearance with a
judge. As of June 14, a felony warrant has already been issued for Chamberlain’s re-arrest.
