Baker City Business Penalized by Department of Environmental Quality

BAKER CITY – (Information from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality) The Oregon DEQ publicly released the list of environmental penalties for April 2023. In total, 14 businesses were penalized for environmental violations, totaling $408,311 in issued fines. Jackson Food Stores, located in Baker City, was penalized $20,700 for “underground fuel storage tanks.” As further clarified by the DEQ:

“Organizations or individuals must either pay the fines to the state treasury or file an appeal within 20 days of receiving notice of the penalty. They may be able to offset a portion of a penalty by funding a supplemental environmental project that improves Oregon’s environment.
